🇱🇺 D’Sweet Devils – Cheerleading Team vun der Espérance Esch

1999 hu mer eis gefrot, wat mat de jonke Meedercher géif geschéien, déi mat vill Asaz Konschtturnen gemaach hunn an duerno hir sportlech Carrière ophalen missten. Fir hinnen eng nei sportlech Perspektiv ze bidden, ass op Initiativ vum Veräi d’Cheerleading-Ekipp duerch d’Juliette CAPUTO-JOHANNS an d’Liewe geruff ginn. Déi éischt Choreographien goufen duerch d’Tessy ALESCH erstallt, déi an deenen éischte Saisone vun de Sweet Devils d’Juliette CAPUTO-JOHANNS aktiv ënnerstëtzt huet.

Virun allem d’Lynn CRUCHTEN huet d’Ekipp weidergefouert a si op déi éischt Meeschterschaften begleet. Et war och duerch hatt, datt déi éischt däitsch Trainer engagéiert goufen. Wéi de Mark an d’Sinikka WILKING als Trainer dobäi koumen, war et d’Tammy BERGER, déi d’Choreographien iwwerholl huet an d’Ekipp weider geprägt huet.

Aus fréieren Turnerinnen a Dänzerinnen, déi ufanks Choreographien mat Pomponen an einfachen akrobateschen Elementer presentéiert hunn, ass esou mat de Joren eng staark Ekipp entstanen, déi haut un internationale Meeschterschaften deelhëlt.

Haut besteet d’Ekipp vun de Sweet Devils aus 24 Meedercher am Alter tëscht 16 an 28 Joer. Zweemol d’Woch trainéieren si intensiv, mam Haaptschwéierpunkt op Level-gerechte Stunten a Pyramiden. Op d’mannst eemol d’Joer trieden si bei enger internationaler Cheerleading-Meeschterschaft am Ausland un. Och am Ziel vun verschiddenen traditionnellen Lëtzebuerger Coursen sinn se net eweg ze denken.

E puer Highlights:

2019 Éischt Plaz zu Bottrop an zu Düsseldorf. Qualifikatioun fir de Summit 2020 zu Orlando (USA), deen duerch CoVid19 ofgesot gouf.
2022 Zweete Plaz bei den Elite Championships zu Bottrop (Senior Allgirl Cheer Level 4) an och beim SALC zu Düsseldorf.
2023 Éischt Plaz beim SALC an GALC West, Qualifikatioun fir de Summit 2024.
Mee 2024 Historesch Leeschtung – d’Sweet Devils ginn Vizeweltmeeschter (2. Plaz am Level 4) beim Summit zu Orlando a vertrieden esou Lëtzebuerg an d’Stad Esch op der weltgréisster Cheerleading-Bühn.

Mat der Saison 2024–2025 huet eng nei Etapp ugefaangen:

• Chris WELTER, selwer an der Espérance grouss ginn a mat vill internationaler Cheerleading-Erfarung.

D’Sweet Devils bleiwen domat eng vun de Spëtze-Cheerleading-Ekippen zu Lëtzebuerg, mat vill Engagement a Succès am Land an am Ausland.

🇬🇧 The Sweet Devils – Cheerleading Team of Espérance Esch

In 1999, we began to wonder what would happen to the young girls who had dedicated themselves to artistic gymnastics but eventually had to end their gymnastics careers. To offer them a new sporting perspective, the club took the initiative to create a cheerleading team, founded by Juliette CAPUTO-JOHANNS. The first choreographies were created by Tessy ALESCH, who actively supported Juliette CAPUTO-JOHANNS during the Sweet Devils’ first seasons.

Lynn CRUCHTEN in particular continued to develop the team and accompanied them to their first championships. It was also thanks to her that the first German coaches joined the team. When Mark and Sinikka WILKING became coaches, Tammy BERGER took over the choreography and continued to shape the team’s development.

What began as a group of former gymnasts and dancers performing routines with pom-poms and simple acrobatic elements gradually developed over the years into a strong and successful team that now competes at international championships.

Today, the Sweet Devils team consists of 24 athletes aged between 16 and 28. They train intensively twice a week, with a particular focus on level-appropriate stunts and pyramids. At least once a year, they compete in an international cheerleading championship abroad. They have also become a familiar presence at the finish line of several traditional Luxembourg sporting events.

Some highlights:

2019 – First place in Bottrop and Düsseldorf. Qualification for The Summit
2020 in Orlando, USA, which was cancelled due to COVID-19.
2022 – Second place at the Elite Championships in Bottrop in Senior All Girl Cheer Level 4, as well as second place at SALC in Düsseldorf.
2023 – First place at SALC 2023 and GALC West, securing qualification for The Summit 2024.
May 2024 – A historic achievement: the Sweet Devils became runners-up at The Summit in Orlando, finishing second in Level 4 and proudly representing Luxembourg and the City of Esch on the world’s biggest cheerleading stage.

The 2024–2025 season marked the beginning of a new chapter.

Mark and Sinikka WILKING stepped down as coaches, and the new coaches were already very familiar faces within the club:

Chris WELTER, who grew up within Espérance Esch and brings extensive international cheerleading experience.

Sarah HALSDORF, a long-standing club member who, until recently, was herself an active member of the 2024 Summit team.

The team immediately celebrated further successes:

2024 SACD Lyon – First place in Level 3 and qualification for the European Summit 2026 in Portugal.
2025 SALC Düsseldorf - Fourth place in Level 3.
At The Summit Europe 2026 in Lisbon, the Sweet Devils finished 8th out of 17 teams and at SACD in Lyon, they finished 3rd out of 9 teams.

The Sweet Devils therefore remain one of Luxembourg’s leading cheerleading teams, distinguished by their dedication, team spirit and continued success both at home and internationally.
